Amadou Opa Bathily, born in 1987 in Bamako, is a Malian artist whose work explores materiality, movement, and the symbolic power of textiles. Trained at a young age at Atelier Miria, he developed a distinctive approach to materials such as metal, fabric, and leather, transforming them into works that balance flexibility and strength. His style, informed by pointillism and impressionism, seeks to capture the inner motion of the human body and of African societies in transition. Fabric becomes a metaphor for memory, journey, and identity. Spanning painting, sculpture, and installation, his practice reflects the creative energy of Bamako. His work has been exhibited at the Rencontres de Bamako and Dak’Art, as well as in numerous shows across Africa and Europe. He has also taken part in major international fairs, including 1-54 in London and Marrakech, AKAA in Paris, and Art X Lagos. Through this growing visibility, Bathily is emerging as a leading voice of the new Malian artistic generation.
