Jamil Bennani – Le Baiser, 2025
Born in 1963 in Rabat, Jamil Bennani was immersed in the world of arts from a very early age. With a father who was a renowned painter with a strong plastic approach and German grandparents who were florists in Munich, a sense of color, form, fragrance, and harmony quickly became part of his daily life. Since childhood, Jamil envisioned a career that would offer beauty and dreams. In 1985, he became a master cabinetmaker after training at the Institut Saint-Luc in Tournai, Belgium. Three years later, he earned a degree in interior architecture and design from the École Supérieure des Arts Modernes in Paris. A first professional experience within a family company in charge of exporting revisited Moroccan craftsmanship across the world allowed him to discover a savoir-faire on the verge of disappearance. Jamil Bennani, master cabinetmaker and designer, carries out his creative practice on an international scale. In 1994, he created his own company, JBdesign, specializing in cabinetmaking and interior architecture. His work—unclassifiable, demanding, and imbued with plastic freedom, featuring lines inspired by the graphic balances of Nature—interrogates and disrupts artisanal traditions and cultures to bring a contemporary spotlight to our immense heritage. The ensemble of traditional artisanal disciplines that he is committed to preserving allows for a sophisticated application in the creation of unique pieces, driven by a generous desire to showcase the "intelligence of the hand" of his cabinetmakers, all of whom are trained by him.
