Tahar Mguedmini
Tahar Mguedmini was born in 1948 on the island of Djerba, Tunisia. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Tunis as well as the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
From 1976 to 1989, he lived in Zurich, where he had a studio at the Rote Fabrik. In 1985, he returned to Paris to stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts, where he created a mural at the Fleury-Mérogis penitentiary center in collaboration with young inmates.
Since 1969, his work has been featured in solo exhibitions, including at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Vincennes in 1974 and 1975. He has also exhibited in major galleries in Tunis — particularly at Cherif Fine Art from 1987, and later at Le Violon Bleu from 2005 — as well as in group exhibitions in Tunis, Berlin, Munich, Geneva, and Zurich, where he has been represented by Galerie Commercio. His work has also been shown at contemporary art fairs in Marrakech and Dubai.
In 2022, his major exhibition at Galerie Terrabella inaugurated the Djerba Cultural Center. In 2024, he exhibited at OBAFRICART Gallery in Brussels.
His works are part of numerous public and private collections, including that of the British Museum in London.
Permanently based in Djerba since 1989, he continues to pursue a prolific artistic career.
