About
On the occasion of his solo exhibition Imprévisible at African Arty, in collaboration with Brussels-based gallery OBAFRICART, Tahar M’Guedmini presents a powerful body of work that invites viewers into a suspended, timeless space, where painting becomes energy, force, and controlled chaos.
Rooted in decades of practice between Zurich, Paris, and Djerba—where he has lived and worked since 1989—M’Guedmini’s work draws from an intimate connection with his environment. In his studio in Ajim, the wind becomes both a subject and a collaborator, animating the surface of the canvas and blurring the boundaries between stillness and motion, the inside and the outside.
At the heart of these paintings stands an enigmatic figure, “the man in black,” an anonymous presence whose emergence embodies the universal. He is neither hero nor witness, but a silhouette charged with emotion, prompting the viewer to step into an experience that defies narrative and resists time.
Widely exhibited and collected, including by the British Museum, M’Guedmini continues, through Imprévisible, a singular and deeply poetic investigation into the material and metaphysical dimensions of painting. His work unfolds like a quiet storm—introspective, visceral, and irreducibly free.
