About
"The Children Republic" explores the theme of a future where children become the new leaders of a society, overcoming the difficulties of the past.
The concept was inspired by a film of the same name by Guinean filmmaker Flora Gomez, in which children are inspired to create their own republic after the loss of their parents. The exhibition features works illustrating children who decide to face challenges by creating a futuristic republic.
The project emphasizes the idea of community and play, highlighting the ability of children to interact regardless of their social or ethnic backgrounds. The use of textiles, such as Ndop cloth and Western collars, seems to be a visual metaphor for cultural and social diversity.
The exhibition seeks to promote a sense of community by bringing together different peoples from different parts of the world, inspired by the way children play regardless of their social or ethnic background.
Ultimately, "The Children Republic" aims to encourage viewers to adopt a model of "Sankofa," inviting them to return to their roots and culture in order to better understand themselves and their community. The works are intended to provoke reflection on resilience, community, and cultural pride, and to encourage viewers to reconnect with their origins in order to better understand their identity.
