AA Gallery is delighted to announce its participation in the 1-54 Marrakech art fair, taking place from February 5 to 8, 2025, at La Mamounia, with a curated selection of works by Ahlam Lemseffer (b. 1950) and Karim Bennani (1936–2023). A founding figure of Moroccan artistic modernity, Karim Bennani developed a hybrid body of work starting in the 1960s, woven from lyrical abstraction, gestural calligraphy, and poetic figuration. His visual language was constructed as an internal score, shaped by an organic relationship to the sign, the line, and light. Bennani was as much a thinker as a painter, contributing with rigor and commitment to the emergence of a constantly evolving artistic ecosystem. Alongside him, Ahlam Lemseffer—whose practice has established itself over recent decades as one of the most powerful voices in Moroccan contemporary art—explores the territories of matter, architecture, and the sacred. Through monumental works marked by geometric forms and mastered tensions, she proposes an aesthetic of vertigo, a poetics of the threshold, and a language of awakening.
