About

African Arty is pleased to present "Traversées", a duo show featuring Flo Arnold and Claire Marboeuf.

"Traversées" invites visitors on a journey through the intertwined realms of memory, space, and identity. In this joint exhibition, artists Flo Arnold and Claire Marboeuf explore the fluid nature of existence through their distinct yet complementary practices, creating a dialogue that evokes both personal introspection and broader existential questions.

Flo Arnold's work is a meditation on movement—both physical and emotional. Her mixed-media creations, rooted in abstract expression, reflect the transient nature of human experience. The material used, white water-repellent paper, suggests ephemerality and fragility, but also a form of evanescence underlined by their apparent levitation. Flo Arnold's sculptures float in spaces that are open to thought, spirituality and inner journeys. Her pieces, at once expansive and intimate, encourage viewers to reflect on their own journeys, the passage of time, and the ephemeral beauty of the world around them.

Claire Marboeuf, in contrast, evokes a vibrant, warm humanity, recalling the richness of social ties and shared moments. A seasoned traveller, she takes a particularly accurate look at city life, capturing the warmth of neighbourhood life amid the hustle and bustle of major metropolises. ‘I take photos like painting a picture’. From New York to Marrakech, Claire Marboeuf breathes life, texture and colour into her shots to capture the vitality of the inhabitants of these bustling cities.

Together, Arnold and Marboeuf's works create a multi-sensory experience that speaks to the fluidity of human existence. Traversées is more than an exhibition—it is an invitation to cross borders, both literal and metaphorical, and to embrace the uncertainties that define our shared experiences.

Through their distinct artistic languages, the artists create a compelling narrative that reflects on the notion of crossing, whether it be between land and sea, past and future, or self and other. As viewers navigate the space, they are invited to become active participants in this journey, exploring their own inner landscapes as they traverse the external worlds Arnold and Marboeuf have so thoughtfully constructed.
